Masks and Stencils
Masking is a process that allows you to isolate and leave a part of the surface of the piece uncolored or prevent the superimposition of another color.
This process can be done on clay in a leathery state, using engobes, or on dry clay, bisqued or with raw glaze already applied, using underglazes, paints or glazes (as indicated). The engobe, underglaze or glaze can be applied with a brush, sponge, airbrush, etc.
We may obtain masks through the use of:
- Molds and stencils : We can find countless molds for stencils or even make our own stencils by cutting out plastic.
- Adhesive tape and stickers : Any adhesive tape can be used to make reservations. There are some flexible tapes that are millimeters thick that allow you to create curved lines and varied patterns and designs.
- Latex : This material, when applied with a brush, allows us to delimit specific areas and clearly define the desired reserve.
- Wax : Just like the previous ones, it will waterproof the surface, preventing the paint from sticking. This, unlike others materials, remains in the piece, only disappearing when it goes into the oven.
